Course ID: ASALY

Avoid the SALY Audit

This course is for audit firms that experience audit inefficiencies or poor quality because too many audits are done with a “Same As Last Year” (SALY) mindset without a clear understanding of what has changed from the last audit.

Learning Objectives

As a result of completing this course, the auditor will be able to:

  • Recognize the danger of performing a “Same As Last Year” (SALY) audit and identify its root cause.
  • Identify sources of change in the client’s business and industry that may give rise to audit risk.
  • Adopt client inquiry strategies during planning to better identify what’s changed since last year.

Major Topics

This course is a good fit for early career audit professionals who are relatively new to audit planning and who over rely on the work that was done on the previous audit to plan the current year. Typically, the root cause of that problem is the inability to identify change. This course describes the importance of identifying change and provides practical advice and a practice aid for avoiding the SALY audit.

Who Should Attend

Early career audit professionals with limited experience planning audits.
