What NOW, Coach? Leading When You Don’t Know What to Do Next

This course is designed to help you lead in times of uncertainty. Turns out, the typical models of coaching often don’t serve us too well these days. The image of the confident coach barking orders from the sidelines or signaling plays from courtside is great in sports. But what do you say when your team looks to you and you don’t know what the “right” answer is?

Greg Conderacci, who teaches this course, is the author of Getting UP! Supercharging Your Energy, which focuses on creating powerful, positive energy in difficult times. A BLI Senior Fellow, consultant, and faculty member at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, he is a sought-after adviser for personal and corporate change.

This course is available in a four or eight credit hour format.

Learning Objectives
  • Identify ways to deal with “necessary conflict”
  • Recognize how to “ask the right question”
  • This course focuses on the tools and techniques of transformational leadership. In other words, leading a team that’s trying to figure out how to do something it has never done before. Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
  • Identify ways to deal with major changes and stressful situations ( i.e. a merger or acquisition; the loss or gain of a major piece of business)
  • Formulate how to move to “the next level” (whatever that is)
  • Identify ways to adapt to a new vision or direction.

Major Topics

*Dealing with “necessary conflict.” The transition probably won’t be smooth. Prepare to weather the storm.
*Failing fast. You will fail…can you use the glitches, missteps and mistakes as stepping stones to a better future?
*Asking the right questions. It can be harder to know what the “right” question is than to know what the “right” answer is.
*Seeing the blind spots. Identify what’s missing in your plan, on your team, and in your vision.
*Building the bridge as you walk on it. Can you create a fresh mindset that’s open to change and creative enough deal effectively with it?
