The ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders’ has been inspired by Stephen Covey’s, ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’. It uses these timeless principles as a framework to take participants on a journey of change from management to leadership. Each habit is discussed in depth with the objective of applying it in practice. The workshop includes informative presentations, discussions, interactive group activities, and a specific drive to generating actions for change. Throughout the workshop, delegates participate in reflective exercises on their own and as part of a group and are encouraged to ‘go the extra mile’ following the workshop. For example, each delegate is given the opportunity for a confidential 1-2-1 follow-up coaching session so that they can apply it to their own situation.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to identify how to use 7 highly effective leadership habits in their role as a leader, manager, supervisor etc. These habits have been tried and tested by the most successful leaders in business, industry, politics, sport, entertainment etc. Participants are given a mixture of theory and practice, focusing on improving the quality and consistency of their leadership skills, building positive relationships with clients, customers, and colleagues, and feeling empowered to make effective decisions. It is a results-focused course, which encourages leaders to implement their ideas, thoughts and suggestions in their role, within their team, as part of their function/department, and for the benefit of the wider organisation.
Major Topics
- The workshop has been broken down into a series of inter-related topics to be delivered over the course of one day
- How the 7 Habits help leaders to create effective business goals, drive principle-led behaviours, become the foundation of an organisation’s values and culture, enhance employee engagement, and ultimately produce highly effective leaders
- Being Proactive emphasises the importance of leaders taking responsibility for their actions and how to adopt a positive attitude towards their clients, customers and colleagues
- Beginning with the End in Mind reminds leaders to focus on creating their own ‘purpose’ and the importance of aligning it to the company’s goals, objectives, and values
- Putting First Things First helps leaders manage time effectively, distinguishing between those actions that are ‘urgent’ (likely to be someone else’s agenda) and those that are ‘important’ (helping leaders to achieve their ‘purpose’)
- Thinking Win-Win encourages leaders to work collaboratively with their clients, customers and colleagues, thus increasing the probability of long-term success and not just short-term gain
- Seeking First to Understand, then be Understood enables leaders to enhance their communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. It helps leaders to make fully informed decisions by being aware of their own opinions (paradigms) as well as ‘empathising’ with their clients’, customers’ and colleagues’ perspective
- Synergising encourages leaders to use all of the Habits to work with others in order to build and maintain a highly effective team
- Sharpening the Saw requires leaders to continuously learn and develop by balancing their physical, spiritual, mental, and social activities
Who Should Attend
The course is appropriate for leaders at any level. For example, new managers can learn how to create ‘good’ habits at the start of their career, middle-management benchmark those behaviours that may have become a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ habit, and more seasoned leaders use this as an opportunity to remind themselves of best practice leadership principles
