Excel Essentials & Intro to Data Analysis For Accounting and Finance: Part 4 – Data Analysis, Pivot Tables and Power Pivot

In Part 4 of this 4 part series, you will learn essential knowledge that every accounting and finance professional should understand to work effectively and productively in Excel.

Extracting and shaping data is the foundation of preparing analysis and deriving insight to make more informed business decisions.

In this session, we delve into developing analysis using pivot tables and explore why pivot tables are a powerful tool for making sense of data. An introduction to “Power Pivot” is reviewed to understand how extremely powerful data modeling can be performed, and allows us to work with “big data” right inside Excel using the data model. Building relationships inside the data model makes it easy, and possible, to create pivot tables from multiple related data tables.

Prerequisites

Experience using Excel functions and formulas in Excel is helpful. The Power Pivot discussion uses the Microsoft 365 version of Excel, where we simply activate the Power Pivot Add-In so it appears on the Menu tabs. In older Excel versions (2010 and 2013), this is an add-in that needs to be installed and activated.
