Unconscious bias linked to diversity is a hot topic. Diversity and inclusion can be linked to performance and happiness at work. The more diverse a group and the more the diversity is acknowledged, the greater the performance and satisfaction. Recognising how attitudes and stereotypes impact our decisions and actions in an unconscious way – and learning how to overcome those unconscious biases – can help to increase diversity of representation and, in turn, promote inclusion. We often find when our bias is prominent, a situation can result in conflict. It’s worth remembering though that not all conflict is negative. Sometimes positive conflict occurs when people at odds exchange their differing views in a productive, constructive way.
